The preliminary estimate of GDP showed the economy expand by 0.4% in the first quarter with the services sector the only component to see any growth. Some moderation in activity always looked likely with recent business surveys pointing to a loss of momentum since the start pf the year. Indeed, lead indicators suggest that growth will remain at this more modest level in the second quarter.
