Shanghai’s retail sales rose by 9.0% to RMB738.7 billion in 2012, slightly slower than previous year’s 12.3% increase. Especially worth mentioning was the 75.5% surge of e-commerce sales to RMB 23.86 billion. By the end of 2012, the total number of commercial network had reached 13,942, including 2,443 chain supermarkets and 5,178 convenience stores, although the total value of business sales had decreased by 4.6% to RMB220.263 billion.
