The California Employment Development Department estimates that 33,400 jobs were added in Orange County the past twelve months with the largest gain of 8,000 jobs in the professional and business services sector. Unemployment in March was 6.3%, down from 7.9% twelve months prior and substantially below California’s overall unemployment rate of 9.4%. National GDP grew at an annual rate of 0.4% during fourth quarter 2012 and averaged just 2.2% growth for the year, demonstrating the ongoing sluggish recovery since the end of the recession.
