A growing number of positive indicators, including an increase in job opportunities and a decline in the unemployment rate, provided sustained evidence that the Tampa Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area’s (MSA) continued to show encouraging indications of economic progress during the first quarter of 2013. While business and consumer confidence strained to remain positive during this time, the area’s job numbers experienced a significant positive improvement. As of March 2013, the unemployment rate fell to 6.9%, down from 7.9% at year-end 2012.
