Data for Q1 has been disappointing as the heavy drag from plunging inventories offset positive growth in all the indicators of total demand. However, recent data has been more positive, with manufacturing PMI indicating a strong expansion of industrial production and consumer confidence edging up again. As a result, the economy is likely to have returned to positive growth in Q2.
