Turkey : Urban Regeneration

A research produced by

Over the past decade, the central government in Turkey has issued a legal framework to enable urban regeneration projects in Istanbul and in many other cities across Turkey. Especially after the 2011 earthquake, the government decided to take firm steps towards the demolition of illegal/risky buildings and the renewal of aged buildings. In order to implement this plan, a new law “Regeneration of Areas under Disaster Risk” was legislated in May 2012. Through the passing of related laws a new era has started on urban regeneration and major urban renewal projects are under way across Turkey.
