Nationwide investment transaction volumes reached a pre-crisis record of USD267bn in the trailing 12 months to mid-year 2014. With this report, we initiate our coverage of the US investment markets. We focus our analysis on the top eight US markets where activity reached USD89bn in the period, a 23% increase over the previous 12 months. Trading was centred in the three key markets of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Manhattan.
Despite being most active, domestic investors became net sellers at USD 5bn in the trailing 12 months to mid-year 2014. In contrast, non-American investors were the biggest net buyers at USD4bn. This was a reversal of the trend in 2013.
