Washington, DC : Office Snapshot - Q3 2014

The national economy continues to heat up with 248,000 payroll jobs added in September, dropping the unemployment rate to 5.9% - its lowest point in six years. Additionally employment in office-using industries topped 30 million total for the first time in history. These increasingly positive national gains only further highlight the economic lag plaguing the D.C. area.

Currently at 7.6%, unemployment in the District itself dropped by 0.7% year-over-year, but with a slight uptick in unemployment seen both downtown and metro-wide since January, the D.C. region still continues to offset private gains with federal losses, leaving overall growth stagnant.
