Take-up in the Cologne warehouse and logistics premises market in the first three months of 2016 totalled 35,000 m². That was around one quarter higher than in the prior-year period but 20 % below the long-term average. All the same, demand was lively, especially in the small-unit segment of up to 3,000 m². Almost half of all the freshly leased premises comprised newly built space. The only large contract up to now was that concluded by clothing retailer Snipes for 17,200 m² in Wesseling. Apart from that, market activity has been confined to smaller leases. The entire market area continues to suffer from a shortage of space, especially of premises upwards of 5,000 m², and that restricts take-up. As before, favoured logistics precincts are the core area, the periphery on the left-bank side of Cologne, and the right-bank district of Porz.
