The Baltimore Metropolitan area unemployment continues trending lower than the national average. Baltimore’s unemployment rate however, has increased 20 basis points (BP) from 4.3% to 4.5% year-over-year. The unemployment rate continues to stabilize sub 5.0%, well off the highs of 2010, when the unemployment rate hit 8.4%. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the leading employment drivers for the metropolitan area are the Education and Health Services and Professional and Business Services sectors, both growing at a healthy 3.6%, year-over-year.
