Retail sales in the U.S. rose modestly over the last four quarters; however, e-commerce sales rose at a quicker pace, increasing by 15.7% throughout 2016. Online sales represented 8.4% of all retail sales through the second half of the year, totaling approximately $1.0 billion. Fueled by the robust demand for the delivery of goods and need for warehouse space, the trade, transportation, and utilities sector in New Jersey has increased by 11,100 jobs over the last 12 months and has added over 71,000 new jobs since its low point in February 2010.
