After seeing a steady decline the last six months of 2012, the Charlotte MSA unemployment rate has increased to 10.0%, a trend that is in line with seasonal employment fluctuations. Charlotte continues to be the center of job growth for the Carolinas adding nearly 27,000 new jobs in 2012. Recent first quarter announcements such as MetLife adding 2,500 jobs and engineering firm AREVA relocating its North American headquarters to Charlotte have continued to attract highly skilled employees to the Queen City. Charlotte continues to excel in job creation, however, it is attracting more potential employees than employment opportunities.
