The recession in the Italian economy deepened in Q4 as the deterioration in external demand tempered the boost from net exports seen in previous quarters, while the deterioration of private and government consumption eased. The first months of 2013 have been affected by renewed uncertainty and persistent weaknesses of external demand, with manufacturing PMI at a seven-month low in March and services PMI in contraction territory.
