The positive momentum built in 2012 appears to have been maintained at the start of 2013 as retail sales (excluding motor vehicle and cycles) adjusted for seasonality and working days grew by 2.4% in January year-on-year. The latest rise was driven by an increase in food, beverages and tobacco (6.6%), as well as non-food sales (3.9%).
