According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Massachusetts unemployment rate closed February at 6.5%, down 60 basis points from December. The Bay State’s unemployment rate has once again, in keeping with historical norms, edged below the national rate, which closed March at 6.7%, in line with year-end.
As of February, job growth stood at 1.4% year-over-year, with 47,600 new jobs created in Massachusetts during the past twelve months. The Education and Health Services and Professional and Business Services sectors continued to exhibit positive momentum, accounting for 65% of new jobs, with the Construction and Information sectors also posting steady gains.
