At the start of 2014, D.C. jobs grew in some sectors with 200 positions added in professional services and 700 in education and health services. The government continues to cut back, shedding 2,500 positions over the same time period. Still, the unemployment rate in D.C. fell from 7.6% in December to 7.4% in January and February. Overall, confidence remains that 2014 will be a stronger hiring year in the region, bolstered by the federal budget deal that has provided some clarity on funding for government operations and contracting companies.
