The Long Island unemployment rate is currently 6.2%, down 0.9 percentage points from one year ago and 1.7 percentage points lower than New York State’s rate. Both the Nassau and Suffolk Country unemployment rate dropped 0.9 percentage points from one year ago to 5.8% and 6.6%, respectively.
From February 2013-February 2014, the private sector added 17,300 jobs. The top industry performers for job growth included trade, transportation and utilities; education and health services; and retail trade.
