According to the California Employment Development Department, 30,600 jobs were added in Orange County the past 12 months, an increase of 2.1%. The largest annual increase was in the construction sector with 8,200 jobs added, 80.0% of which occurred in the specialty trade contractor sector, followed by leisure and hospitality, which added 6,200 jobs.
The unemployment rate in Orange County was 5.6% in November 2013, down from a revised 5.8% in October, and below the year-ago estimate of 6.9%. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 8.3% for California and 6.6% for the nation during the same period.
