According to the California Employment Development Department, 32,500 jobs were added in Orange County, in the last twelve months, an increase of 2.3%. The largest annual increase was in the financial services sector with 6,300 jobs added, nearly 80.0% of which occurred in the credit intermediation and restructuring sector. Leisure and Hospitality was close behind adding 6,200 jobs. Orange County was the only market in the L.A. Basin to add Government jobs, gaining 100 in the past twelve months.
The unemployment rate in Orange County was 6.2% in August 2013, down from a revised 6.5% in July, and below the year-ago estimate of 7.8%. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 8.8% for California and 7.3% for the nation during the same period.
