According to the California Employment Development Department, 17,900 jobs were added in Orange County the past 12 months, an increase of 1.2%. The largest annual increase was in the educational and health services sector with 5,500 jobs added, followed by leisure and hospitality, which added 5,300 jobs.
The unemployment rate in Orange County was 5.4% in August 2014, down from a revised 5.8% in July, and below the year-ago estimate of 6.4%. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 7.4% for California and 6.3% for the nation during the same period.
