UK Footfall has continued to fall - UK Retail Focus - Q1 2016

UK retail sales grew by 2.7% over the 12 months to March 2016, representing the 35th consecutive month of sales growth. Uncertain weather conditions meant that clothing and footwear sales were the main lagging factor on overall sales.

Shop prices declined at their fastest rate since records began. The BRC/Nielson Shop Price Index fell by 1.7% in March compared to a year earlier. Food prices have continued to fall, though not to the same degree as in 2015.

The IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index grew by 15% in Q1 2016 on the same period last year. Sales growth from smartphones continues to outstrip those made from tablets - sales grew by 101% compared to Q1 2015. Perhaps most significantly, conversion rates from smartphones were 50% higher than in the same period last year.
