The Nashville metropolitan area’s economy continues to boom in 2016. Preliminary numbers from the first two months of 2016 added 3,000 jobs and year-over-year nonfarm employment eclipsed 32,000 positions as of February 2016 – more than double the region’s long term average of 14,400 jobs per year. The unemployment rate registered a very healthy 4.5%. The job growth was particularly strong in the office using sectors with Professional and Business Services adding 13,150 new positions and Financial Services creating more than 2,000 jobs over the past twelve months. Other sectors witnessing strong growth were Education and Healthcare, Manufacturing and Construction, and Local Government (5,900, 5,900, and 1,750 jobs, respectively).
