The unemployment rate in Los Angeles County declined to 4.8%, well below the rate of 6.8% one year ago. This is the lowest unemployment rate since early 2007. Total employment has risen by 122,500 jobs within this time, representing growth of 2.9%. The Los Angeles Economic Development Corp projects the county to create hundreds of thousands of jobs over the next four years. While many jobs added will pay below the median wage, there will be an annual average growth of 3.0% for the professional and business sector, the highest growth rate amongst all serviceproviding industries in Los Angeles. These high-paying, high-skilled jobs will provide career pathways for local residents.
