Contraction within the Czech economy continued in Q4, driven by depressed investment and exports. Recession was eased somewhat by a strong rebound in private spending (0.9% q/q) – a result of consumers spending their cash in anticipation of the January VAT hike. Nevertheless, the underlying outlook for consumers is weak due to ongoing austerity and the faltering labour market.
