Over the past year the Rochester economy has endured some manufacturing job losses, which has impacted the overall unemployment rate for the area. The job losses were mostly due to reductions in workforce from Kodak and Xerox. The unemployment rate in Rochester is currently 8.7%, which is only slightly higher than the overall rate for New York State at 8.4%. Despite the loss of 2,500 manufacturing jobs over the past year, the Rochester market has seen job growth in areas such as education, health, and professional services.
