As the Sacramento economy continues to improve, the local unemployment rate ticked down again to 9.6% as of the end of February according to the California Employment Development Department, comparing favorably to the year-ago estimate of 11.2%. Over the course of the year through February, employment in the area grew by 1.6%, with the professional and business services sector growing by a healthy 9.8%, helping offset the loss of 2,600 government jobs during the same period (a decline of 1.2%).
