The Long Island unemployment rate is currently at 6.2% down 1.3 percentage points (pp) from one year ago and below the state’s rate of 7.5%. Over the past year, the sector trade, transportation & utilities employment climbed by 26.000 jobs, 6.700 of which concentrated in Long Island. Job gains on the island were also prevalent in the natural resources, mining, and construction sector (+4.700). During the same time New York State lost 11.100 jobs in the manufacturing sector with Long island responsible for 2.300 of these jobs cuts.
