The Connecticut economy continued its struggle to bounce back from the recession through 2013, with modest improvement. The unemployment rate, which declined 0.6 percentage points (pp) year-over-year to 7.6%, continues to hold above the national rate of 6.7%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Hartford metro unemployment rate closed 2013 at 6.8%, marking a 1.0 pp improvement year-over-year. Employment gains were moderate, with the Hartford metro adding 8,400 jobs over the last year, for 1.5% growth. The Government and Leisure and Hospitality sectors showed positive momentum, with the Professional and Business Services sector also making headway.
