Tennessee, and Nashville in particular, continue to receive accolades and high rankings regarding business climate. Thumbtack.com and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation surveyed over 12,000 small business owners nationwide to gain insight into state and local business environments.
Nashville ranked ninth best among 82 cities while Tennessee ranked sixth overall. The chief economist at Thumbtack said, “Creating a business climate that is welcoming to small, dynamic businesses is more important than ever, and Nashville scores high in that regard.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation assessed free enterprise policies at state and local levels, giving Tennessee an overall ranking oft welve. With all of the positive economic momentum, Tennessee continues to struggle to reduce the unemployment rate. Although the rate in May increased slightly to 6.4%, it is down from 8.4% a year ago, indicating significant improvements.
