The U.S. economy remained strong in the third quarter. After growing at a 4.6% annual rate in the second quarter, current estimates suggest that gross domestic product (GDP) increased at a roughly 3.5% pace in the third quarter, marking the fourth quarter of the last five in which growth has reached or exceeded 3.5%.
