Private sector employment in Long Island has seen an increase of 22,600 jobs over the last year, a 2.1% rise. Private sector employment edged higher by 4,000 during August alone. Since a year ago, trade, transportation, and utilities, educational and health services, and professional and business services propelled the private sector advances in Long Island. Meanwhile the unemployment rate dipped to 5.1%, a 1.0 percentage point decline since one year ago.
