The unemployment rate in Hillsborough County was 6.1% in August 2014 and 6.7% twelve months earlier. Hillsborough County recorded the second lowest unemployment rate (second to Pinellas at 5.8%) in the four-county Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro. The metro area gained 15,600 jobs over the year. The jobless rate should fall further due to recent expansions by several companies increasing the demand for Tampa’s skilled workforce.
