The almost-universal availability of an internet connection and the rise in smartphone ownership have no doubt played an important role in creating an expectation for professionals to be connected and always available. Research by Toister Performance Solutions shows that 78% of professionals expect co-workers to respond to an email within four hours or less. This study also shows that, while 59% of professionals expect a one-day response time from a business, more than two fifths (41%) expect a faster answer. For those managing social media channels, reply times are tougher still with respondents to The Social Habit reporting that 32% expect a response within 30 minutes and 42% expect a response within 60 minutes.
