Los Angeles County’s unemployment rate decreased to 5.4% in Q1, down from 6.6% one year ago. Employment in the area increased in March by 20,000 reaching 4.7 million, while unemployment declined by 14,000 to 268,000. Total non-farm employment added 12,800 jobs to reach 4.3 million. Education and health servicesposted the largest year-over-year (y-o-y) gain of 36,800 jobs. Manufacturing was the only L.A. County industry to post a y-o-y decline in February with a loss of 5,100 jobs. The entire labor force in L.A. has reached 5 million for the first time since July 2015.
