Consumer confidence reached a 16-year high in June, up slightly from the previous month. Retail sales in the U.S. also ticked higher during the quarter, up 5.1% since one year ago. E-commerce sales, one of the key drivers in the current industrial expansion cycle, have also continued to trend higher, climbing 4.1% since last quarter to almost $106 billion nationally. This represents 8.5% of all retail sales, up from 7.8% from one year ago. Local unemployment finished the month at 4.1%, slightly below the national average of 4.4%. Meanwhile, the trade, transportation, and utilities sector has grown by 4,500 jobs over the last year and now accounts for almost 25.0% of all private sector jobs in the state.
