Denver metro’s employment additions reached sustainable levels as the economy entered into an expansionary period moving into 2014. Non-farm employment in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield MSA increased 2.8% year over year in December, with local employers expanding payrolls by 35,200 positions over the past twelve months.
Construction, in particular, added nearly 6,400 new positions over the last four quarters as increased tenant demand drove commercial construction and developers moved forward with multi- and single-family communities. The thriving tech sector, namely the “soft-tech” sector, such as software design, IT management, and technical R&D, advanced 5.0% year over year with the addition of 5,400 new jobs.
