The second quarter saw the national unemployment rate fall from 6.7% in March to 6.1% in June, a major indicator of strong economic performance. In Northern Virginia, the unemployment rate continues to beat the national average at 4.4% and remains the lowest unemployment rate in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In total, Northern Virginia has added approximately 17,000 jobs since the start of the year.
