Denver’s economy remained strong as employers expanded payrolls throughout the region. In the third quarter, non-farm employment climbed 6.2% above prerecession peak levels with the addition of 33,150 positions, an increase of 2.5% over the last 12-month period. The leading sectors creating jobs over the last year were education and healthcare (8,700 jobs), professional and business services (8,300 jobs) and the construction sector, increasing payrolls over 4.3%. Increased metro employment pushed the unadjusted unemployment rate down 40 basis points (bps) to 4.7% ending in August.
